Tin-Nickel as custom solution

Quote: PG – HR/Admin director  – “We knew that we had a strong technical product, but by stepping out of our comfort zone and trying a new surface treatment, we were able to position our product very competitive, allowing us to win large bids like a long term contract with a major player in this market”.

Quote: GH – CEO LGTB – “We have been always open for innovative developments, like having been at the first row to ban CrVI+ in our process-lines or the same for Cobalt  recently, however you need a right partner who is willing to invest time in testing and thinking with you to find solution. Straight from the beginning we believed in the project and trusted their team of high-quality people.”

Back in 2016, a supplier of electronic solutions came to LGTB, after advice of Catholic University of Leuven, with which LGTB had done in the past some joint developments, for a new large project needed to be implemented over whole of Belgium. They were looking for their brass parts for a high corrosion protection which didn’t deform the precise dimensions, was non-magnetic and was economically affordable. LGTB accepted the challenge and constructed an innovative electrolytic process which could deposit tiny layers of a Sn/Ni alloy with lines for both ultra-light as heavy parts. Both companies worked for months closely together to jointly develop a unique product highly competitive on the market.

Besides the technical development, other issues needed to be tackled too. A complex supply chain of over 300 different kinds of articles, coming from various production sites needed to be set up ensuring on time delivery with a very difficult to predict demand. Through a combination of a fixed process schedule for the main part of the business and allowance for quick and flexible interactions bypassing the standard procedures LGTB with the support of the customer, managed to obtain a + 99% of OTIF-deliveries.
