Zinc plating for Tier 1 supplier Volvo trucks

Project Initiation

A lock attachment is a safety part that locks the driver's cab of a truck to the chassis. This makes it a safety part with the additional quality requirements that go with it. The manufacturer of the product was looking for a reliable partner for the surface treatment. This had to have both the appropriate quality organization, the Volvo approval for the desired treatment & sufficient capacity to follow the production. In addition, the additional difficulty of 4 product variants that are visually difficult to distinguish.

Pretty soon the choice fell on LGTB because of its 360° open view approach. The entire supply chain is examined in mutual consultation and chain optimization is sought. Packaging, transports, planning, stock, ........... are discussed in detail.

Since these parts go overseas, a customized maritime packaging is necessary. LGTB developed this in collaboration with the producer and serviced it from the start. Through this global approach, nice savings are realized in the chain: a clear win-win for all partners.

Success story

In addition, LGTB pointed out a shortcoming in the specification of the surface treatment of this product. Volvo was contacted about this and after a short meeting they decided to change the specification. This avoided later structural problems within Volvo's own paint shop. Importantly, this was done without any price implications!

After some time, the manufacturer started having storage problems due to lack of space. After an internal open brainstorming session, LGTB proposed a different packaging method. This reduced the storage requirement by no less than 12%. Again, a nice win-win!
